Urbanus dorantes is found from southern Texas and Florida to northern Argentina, and the West Indies; strays have been recorded elsewhere in the southern United States. This species occurs along forest edges, in clearings, abandoned fields, roadsides, etc. Adults drink nectar of Verbenaceae (e.g., Lantana spp.), Asteraceae, Nyctaginaceae, etc. The caterpillar feeds on legumes (Fabaceae) including Clitoria, Desmodium, and Phaseolus spp.
